So we've always loved John Maus' unreleased song "Bennington" for the obvious reason that we ourselves are rad ladies who matriculated at Bennington College... and harbor fantastical delusions of such songs being written about us. Then today we saw this hilarious post over on Ad Hoc declaring the official release of this song - and other rarities - on Ribbon Music. Awesome shit.

VIDEO: Beach House - "Lazuli"

Beach House's first video off their new album Bloom is for track #3 "Lazuli." The song itself is beautifully languid with delicate, sprawling vocals and climbing melodies. The video depicts various vignettes, including a young girl in front of TV noise dancing as if possessed, a la Ghostbusters/Poltergeist/Lynch.
And the Harmony Korine one with the kid walking around is actually sort of sweet, and the visual effects therein are drool worthy.

This is a beautiful song and while it's a cool video, it's not nearly as lovable as the track. 

VIDEO: My Dry Wet Mess - "Etcetera"

My Dry Wet Mess' new video for "Etcetera" is a psychedelic trip. Directed by visual artist Martin Allais, it mixes animated and "real" imagery. Childhood figures and a nostalgic color aesthetic give the video an ultimately creepy, powerful vibe. Like a cross between a nightmare you just remembered having when you were 5, and a Patrick Daughters video. And the ending, although the audio is rather out of sync, is probably the most poignant part.

Directed by Todd Cole, the video follows a shlubby Michael Caine lookalike around the city, offing mems of the band in his dry cleaning van. Liars have a history of making exceptional music videos and this one is no different:

Liberate Your Lutes

There is rarely anything about Jim Jarmusch that I don't envy. His flawless record of indie films such as Stranger Than Paradise, Down By Law, Dead Man, Coffee and Cigarettes... speaks volumes to his impeccable style. I mean, look at that fucking haircut - it's perfection in its most unflinching, eccentric form.

Only slightly lesser known are his musical talents. (Insert obligatory joke about David Lynch here.) Many may know him as vocalist/keyboardist of 80's No Wave group the Del-Byzanteens (yes that IS John Lurie on sax). On the soundtrack to his 2009 film The Limits of Control - watch it, if you haven't already - Jarmusch performs as one third of Bad Rabbit. The band formed solely for the purpose of recording 4 ambient metal jams for the soundtrack which is one of the best contemporary movie soundtracks ever compiled. Seriously, it just does not quit. Much to our shagrin, however, we were unable to find any further Bad Rabbit material, though search we did - day and fucking night. Thus, left behind is an unquenchable thirst that can only be identified as the ever-painful longing for more guitar-heavy psychedelic rock delivered at the hands of one Mr. James Jarmusch. *dry sob*

Until now? Concerning the Entrance Into Eternity is not Jarmusch's first collaboration with Dutch lute-master Jozef Van Wissem, but it certainly is the most exciting. As you'll find below, this record may potentially serve to moisten even our most parched, impoverished orifices of desire for what once was so beauteous about Bad Rabbit, and all that is awesome about Jim Jarmusch... and the lute.

Much rumored is Jarmusch's inevitable move towards a solo project. But there's no point in breaking our own hearts for nothing. So, til then, Concerning the Entrance Into Eternity is set to be released February 28 on Important Records.

Sigh. Isn't (lead singer Evan) Brody dreamy?? Directed by Alice Goldsmith and Blair Waters, the whimsical video is super reminiscent of one of our favorite music vids of all time - "Kim & Jessie" by M83.

At Times Life Is Pure Joy!

And this is one of those times. Flower Orgy, also known to some as Nate Luce and the Pretty Cuties, have a new video for their jam "Boneyard." Back in September '10 we posted an early recording of this song, which we originally knew and loved as a Stingray Migration (mems Will Stratton, Flower Orgy) tune. Somehow this song manages to keep evolving, taking on new genders and moods like a stone down a mossy, young, overtly sexualized hill. Very much like Nate Luce who, looking a lot like Buffalo Billy Idol + Ziggy Stardust in this video, manages to continuously captivate us.

Don't Feel Nothin'Pure X's new video for "Easy" came out yesterday. It features some friends of theirs who are in the Austin hardcore S&M scene. Which brings up the larger issue...

...which is: there exists an Austin hardcore S&M scene?? Weird.

Conceptually the imagery for the song works well, making the clear connection to the lyrical message of numbness and apathy, pain and pleasure.

On a separate note, check out Pure X's recent feature in the NY Times. Whaaat. These three guys are some of the best people one could hope to meet, and it is so real to see them being loved on an even grander, highly publicized scale.
