PREMIERE: LA BIG VIC - "Musica"

Mystica Maxima
LA BIG VIC have a new song out via Shaking Through. It premieres this morning on our beloved The Fader dot com.

Check out the video from their session. It's hilaaarious:

Musica was essentially LA BIG VIC's first song, originally performed in rudimentary form at one of Market Hotel's first Cosmic Yoga rooftop parties. In writing/recording it, LBV started out with a fast kind of new wave dance song but they slowed it down when they realized the synth line sounded a lot like the song "Neon" by German synth artist Michael Bundt. It has since morphed into a slow and heavy, dark song that is certainly the deepest and saddest in LBV's repertoire thus far. Musica is the closing track from their upcoming album Actually via Underwater Peoples.

MP3: LA BIG VIC - "LYNY"

"I Love You, I Need You"
For the next few nights this week, I've been told to let my soul go flying out my lua'uhane. The "soul pit," according to Hawaiian mythology, is located in the tear duct of the eye. I was further instructed to let my "backlog of stored-up tears rain down on the secret garden" that I have been neglecting. Now any thick-skinned New Yorker would be quick to brush off this fucking froofy piece of advice. Like, "Suck it up, you buncha hairy-backed Mary's." Right??

But think about it. We New Yorkers who work full time (and if you're like me, "full time" in NYC rarely means less than 65+ hours/week) are laden with stress and anxiety, and the accessories that accompany these nasty little beasts. For this New Yorker it means nightmares, hypertension, heart problems, and emotional failure at the complete lack of time I have for a long distance relationship with the person I love and care about more than anything.

As I opened the e-luv (as I prefer to think of it) that included an mp3 from my dear friend Emilie - a kindred who I know is quite familiar with all the feelings I have thus described - I could think of nothing more fitting than the words "I love you, I need you."

While this all may seem to you like nothing more than the rantings of one rather frazzled, sleep-deprived, emotionally unstable young woman, I beg you to go against the NY grain and listen to this song with an open heart.

It is with this in mind that I give you the following song by LA BIG VIC, entitled "LYNY":

Let your soul soar out through your soul pit. Let it pour, if need be.

"Magica Mystica"
These recordings are from LA BIG VIC's show at Cameo Gallery in November of 2009. Someone recently asked me for audio of one the songs they played, so I thought I'd post these:

VIDEO: LA BIG VIC - "FAO Schwartz" Live at Cameo Gallery

"Heavy Zones"
LA BIG VIC are Emilie Friedlander, Toshio Masuda, and Peter Pearson. They make political music from the future in a distant city you haven't heard of yet. Their shows are thoroughly experiential and bring a feeling of fullness to every audience member who is lucky enough to bear witness to such a psychedeli-Japafrench-fantasia.

We poured a lot of love into this video and hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Watch full screen, volume up, please.

SHOW: LA BIG VIC @ Goodbye Blue Monday Tomorrow 04/07/10!

"HEY YO!"LA BIG VIC is playing a show tomorrow night at Goodbye Blue Monday (1087 Broadway in Bushwick) opening at 8pm. They're headlining with sweet psych openers such as Chmmr When Agitated and Moonwalk. This will be such an enjoyable evening, full of long beautiful electronic tunes that will pull your head in so many different directions you won't be able to get home on your own. So basically what I'm saying is you're guaranteed to get laid. Oh, and it's fucking FREE.

Here's a peek at one of our favorite recent sounds:

MP3: La Big Vic - "HEYO (Silver Morning)"

Watching the Sun Rise Over An Imaginary CityLa Big Vic's new track "HEYO (Silver Morning)" springs forth in an abundant array of pleasing tones. The reverberating, mellifulous vocals of Emilie Friedlander evoke the strong yet sensuous presence of a warrior woman, similar to Nika Roza Danilova of Zola Jesus. Toshio Masuda weaves the complex instrumental structure and beat of the song along in a way that is both psychedelic and "political."

La Big Vic - "HEYO (Silver Morning)"

This track comes from their debut cassette tape, which will be available come April.

Stay tuned for a PIXELHORSE video of La Big's performance at Cameo this past winter, which we had the pleasure of attending. La Big Vic, joined by Peter Pearson (of Love Like Deloreans) on keys/synths, gave birth to a beautiful, beautiful performance that night. We can't wait to see their next show.
